During the Step Ahead summer camp, I was able to watch our youth grow as leaders.
On the first day of camp I was impressed by one of our young participants. I only had to ask once and he did what he was asked. The most amazing thing is that this tough street smart youth agreed to help wash the dishes and he was teaching other youth how to accomplish the task at hand. Even though this incident might seem insignificant to some, for CCPY this is significant event because this particular youth transformed from non-cooperative to a leader.
June was an amazing month, 11 of our Step Ahead participants graduated High School. Of those students six enrolled at a college. CCPY now has 5 graduates enrolled at EVC and 1 in San Jose State University.
During the summer camp Welcome Home, one of our 4th year participants addressed the parents with such passion and respect that she blew me away. Listening to her on express herself was like listening to a trained staff member. She spoke with respect and courage.
